Meeples represent your player character. With the exception of Lucky Skipper, each player's Meeple has a Home Hex tile which is where you start your turn. When your character enters it's Shadow Form, you switch your Meeple for the corresponding Meeple. You use your Meeple to indicate your position on the Hex tile map.
Alternatively you can also use the Standees in place of the wooden Meeple (this is optional)
