If I have multiple cards which require targets for their effects, can I select the same target twice?

  • If multiple triggered effects require a target, the same card may not be selected twice in the same link.
  • If there are not enough cards to target, you may only trigger as many effects as you have options for targets.
  • You must select targets for mandatory effects before selecting targets for optional effects.
  • A valid target MUST be chosen,if available. Cards that have immunity or prevented from specific effects cannot be chosen as the target of that effect. A target of a specific card type can only target that card type.

Player Targeting
Cards use specific terminology when referring to players.

  • Any player refers to any single player, including you.
  • Another player refers to any single player, excluding you.
  • Each player refers to every player, including you.
  • Any number of players refers to as many players as you choose, excluding you. (Even though this statement has been omitted from recent rulesheets it is still the intent of the effect.)

Choosing Targets for Effects

There are two play styles for player targeting that you can use when playing Unstable Unicorn:

Option 1 (easy): When you play a card with an effect, you must declare which player(s) you are targeting before using the effect. This allows players to decide if they want to respond with a Neigh card.

Cards may have text that has multiple target effects, only the requirement target of the card is required to be declared not every targeting effect listed on the card.

  • Unicorn, Upgrade, and downgrade cards only require the target stable they would be placed into to be announced. (An enter effect target is not required information as that effect is not yet triggered.)
  • Magic Cards have requirement text that could be "choose a player." or "sacrifice a unicorn card," these are the only required targets to be announced. (Simularily any effect target that is not the requirement has not been triggered to announce to players.)
  • Instant cards only target the top card of the instant pile, this is already open game information to all players already.
Option 2 (advanced): When you play a card with an effect, players have to choose if they want to use a Neigh card before you select targets.

Both options are viable for gameplay, so you can select your house rules for consistency within the game.
